The loose processes now create bottlenecks because inconsistency becomes visible and costly. Client communication needs documentation because you can't hold everything in Slack anymore. Revisions take longer because there are more of them, and they're more complex because you're managing multiple writers with different styles.

Third, you can raise prices substantially as you scale, because you're not selling the same service anymore. You're selling managed complexity. That's worth more.

Most agencies try to do all three at once while pretending none of them are happening. That's how margins collapse. The agencies that maintain healthy margins are the ones that make a deliberate choice about which path they're actually on.
